In addition to his training in Tenshin Bukō-ryū, Matthew has studied iaido since 1996 and is a member of the All Japan Iaido Federation (Zen Nihon Iaido Renmei). He lived and worked in Tokyo from 2005 to 2008 and, while there, trained at a dojo in Jiyugaoka. He has a strong interest in Japanese architecture, art and culture.
